Antique Ivory-Modern Designs - Do You Have One?
Ivory has long been used for oriental artistic precious carvings as far back as the prehistoric time period. Even with the earliest of prehistoric carvings, there are culturally and societal distinctive details of each and every continent that has long been left behind to only be discovered many centuries later. These ivory carving literally tell us so much about the past worlds of the Chinese, Roman, the Egyptian, the Indian, the African, the Japanese, the North American and most every other past and many of the present cultures of the artistic ways of the world.
It was the era of the Roman that made ivory carving an official part of the Christian artistic means. There were carved ivory boxes that would be specifically for religious pieces, and the many types of ivory jewelry has crossed over to every culture creating ivory jewelry, whether religious or not. There were also book panels made of ivory just for the protections any and every type of biblically or religious written books. These ivory book protecting covers were most popular during the 6th Century, and would often be hand crafted out of five small ivory panels placed together, because the ivory tusks were often too small to make less coving ivory panels of the larger needed sizes.
No matter what the object of the ivory carving has been about, it has always been and still is today a design of only the hand carving method. Ivory carving was once only considered to be "real" ivory carving when from the Wooly Mammoth, and then the different varieties of elephants like the elephants of India, Africa and North America.
